Recipe Challenge! Or How You Can Find Inspiration In Everything.

Yes, it’s time for the weekly challenge card! The theme is a recipe: 3 designer papers, ribbon or twine, something circle shaped and we were asked to use an image from Delicious Doodle.

I requested the Robin Redbreast (who is a distant relative of me, Niina Itchynipple) and had some (a lot) trouble with the colouring. As you have seen in the past, my colouring skills leave a lot to be desired. I haven’t even begun to scratch the surface on what I could do with my ProMarkers. However, this time I couldn’t even decide what colours to use! I tried realistic colours. Nope. I tried leaving the image black and white. No, that didn’t work out either. I was getting frustrated. I stared and stared at the image until I suddenly got a feeling of familiarity. I’ve seen something like this before!

I did some creative Googleing and found it! A fabric print by Maija Louekari for Marimekko called Pakkanen:

See where I am going with this? After seeing the image, my card came together very quickly and here it is:

Image  My patterned papers are: the one on the background, the black paper is actually brown chevron I stained black and the blue circles were white but I coloured them blue with my ProMarker True Blue. The heart on the ribbon (twill tape) is also drawn with a ProMarker, colour Poppy.

I love the graphic style of this card and it’s already on its way to someone. Don’t forget to take part in this week’s challenge on Craft Your Passion where you can win 4 digi’s by Delicious Doodles. I’m also sharing this card in following challenges:

It literally has taken me nearly an hour to link these babies up. I think I need to replenish my strength with some chocolate.

Power Of Three

This week, Craft Your Passion, asked us to create something with triples of things. In my card I had multiple of things in threes. 3 black diamonds, 3 clear ones, 3 layers of paper, 3 shades of grey (heehee) and 3 ways to finish edges; faux stitching, real stitching and doodle framing.

I’m such a multi-faceted crafter with many, many layers of deepiness, deep inside me.

I know, I know. It’s very unattractive to laugh at one’s own joke. But I’m still doing it.

Anyhoo, I used this image by our sponsor, Crafty Sentiments Designs because it reminds me of one of my cousins, Siiri. She’s 8 and she is so sweet and adorable like you wouldn’t believe. Since I’m going to send this one to her, I tried to capture her personality in the card as many ways as possible.

First of all, I coloured the girl blond and gave her blue eyes just as Siiri. Last summer she was a flower girl at her aunt’s wedding and wore a dress just like that, so that colour came from there. The flowers are coloured to give an impression of Finnish summer, which means no exotic colours.

As for the background…I wanted to emphasize how Siiri and personality always brighten up everyone’s mood, she really is a ray of sunshine, so I decided to go with monochromatic papers. To give the stamped image even more of a pop, I lifted it with foam from the background. The stitching, faux and real, also gives another dimension to this card. Almost as if the image in the center is fabric badge of honour on someone’s grey, floral sleeve.

Oh, I’m such an artist. A poet.

The diamonds in the corners are there because A. they are girl’s best friend and B. Siiri wants to be a pop star when she grows up and naturally pop stars wear diamonds.

Hope you enjoyed my rambling. Now go and craft and take part in Craft Your Passion Challenge. There are prizes for three this week!

Till next time!

Papercrafting: Mimes!

Couple of days ago I spotted an awesome digistamp at Craft Gossip by WonderStrange. I downloaded it immediately thinking it would come handy at some point. You know, for when I’m making cards for challenges etc. but I didn’t think I’d get INSPIRED by it. I made an actual effort to come up with a sentiment to go with the image (special effort to create something specific means I designed!) and I’m proud to present:

What’s with the silent treatment?

I’m participating in bunch of challenges with this card:

Wow. I think I’m breaking my personal record on challenge participation! Well done me.

Bitchin’ Stitchin’

Here’s my entry for Passion For Promarkers Challenge #116 called…Drumroll…          Your stitchin’ is bitchin’. Cool! Because I am cool! I’m cool, right?

The sewing machine is from here and the patchwork paper on the background I made myself by using vintage fabric swatches I found in Deviant Art:

Till next time!

Tiny Northern Ghost aka Caaaaaandy

My subconscious works in wondrous ways. How else could you explain this:

Can you guess what book inspired me to do this? It’s a classic I’ve never read myself. Hint: The ghosts name is Heathcliff.

The purple washi represents moors. Purple=heather=moor.

Caaaathy! Oh, sorry, I mean Caaaandy!

Plaid. Because that’s what I had in hand and Scotland, Yorkshire…What’s the difference really? They are both in north. Right?

Materials used: washi tape, watercolour paper, a ProMarker, Basic Grey-paper, Distress Ink “Black Soot”, Tacky Glue, 3d- dots.

I’m entering this in three challenges with the theme “Anything Goes”:
