Weekly Photo Challenge: Pattern

I just got home from a lovely date and before going to bed (it’s 2am over here), I decided to do my weekly photo challenge.

As you know, I’m a big fan of vintage prints and fabrics. Even now, there’s a huge pile of fabrics from 1940′s to 1970′s behind my back, just waiting to be sorted, folded and eventually used in one craft project or another. Even my Sew Mama Sew- giveaway prize was a set of vintage fat quarters.

What is it that attracts me to vintage and retro prints? Of course, people tend to get more nostalgic as they age but for me it’s more than that. I love going into the state of mind of the person designing a print. There is always a reason behind of placing the elements. You cannot always verbalize it but you don’t put a petal here and another over there for fun. Even a slight change can make the print to tell a different story. “Reading” vintage prints, takes you into another place and another time and that my friend, is something they call “time travel”.

Weekly Photo Challenge: From Above

This week the theme asks us to change our perspective, to look things from above. At first I was like “Nooo, I have nothing for this challenge in my photo stash!!!” But then I remembered there’s one thing all women look from above and that something is shoes:

Not everything H&M does is bad quality. These zebra ballerinas from Jimmy Choo for H&M-collection had a fantastic lest and were very good to walk in. So good that I actually wore them out when in Paris…A bargain find from a flea market, 4 euros and they were unused!WPCFromAbove2

Ooh, how I loved these high heels. I bought them before my knee got really bad and didn’t have the chance to wear them. I then sold them because I thought I’d never get the operation I needed and subsequently, wouldn’t be able to wear shoes like these ever again. Glad to say I was wrong but I kind of wish I could get these back.

These shoes are odd ones in my closet. Half pvc, half suede with mid-high heel. Needless to say, I haven’t worn these a lot but I like to keep them around because of their happy colour.

Weekly Photo Challenge: Culture

If you are a regular reader, you might remember how excited I was last year when I got to visit Louvre for the first time. I don’t remember how old I was when I first time heard about Louvre but I do recall wanting to visit there around 5th grade. Man, I was sophisticated already back then.

Around that time I won an art competition too. Just sayin’.

Okay, it was only a local competition but my work did go to the regional show and was displayed at a library designed by Alvar Aalto. Hah! It’s still hanging at my grandparents house. When I say hanging, my grandma was too lazy (or cheap) to buy a frame for it (it’s largeish watercolour painting) and just nailed it on the wall. Yes. Really.

That’s how much high culture is appreciated in my neck of woods.

One of my favourite subjects at school was history. Since the history education proceeds in chronological order, one of the first cultures I was taught about was Ancient Egypt. The interest has stayed with me so naturally one of my favourite section at Louvre (or British Museum) is the Egyptian Department (not the official name but too lazy to Google) and who wouldn’t be impressed by this:
