A Little Paper Shop

papershop, paperikauppa, helsinki, shopping

Few weeks ago, I was on a Sunday walk in Helsinki and spotted a very cute looking shop with tons of pretty goodies in the window. I immediately decided to come back next week because who doesn’t like lovely paper products?

They have these wonderful cards from various indie makers.

And I think these are a sure hit with the Instagram-crowd.

How about some wall art? They have bunch of others too and the prices seemed reasonable. Personally I’d be ready to hang some of the gift wrapping papers on the wall too:

The floral patterns are very William Morris-esque, don’t you think? The flamingo is just too perfect. There was also a vintage Paris-map paper that I nearly bought.

Everything is so nicely presented. They have notebooks, washi tapes, those bitty bags (can’t remember the manufacturer right now), gift wrapping and other paper related paraphernalia. Basically it’s a cute paper related Pinterest-board gone live. I could have bought everything but managed to control myself to buy some necessary crafty supplies but that’s for another post.

I don’t have a bad thing to say about this place. You can find it on Fredrikinkatu 18. They have an online store too and you can find it HERE. The postage to Finland is always free and they have service in English too.

P.S. Do I even have to tell you that I love the smell of paper? All the paper sniffers of the world, unite!

Colour Combo

Yes. It’s my last Craft Your Passion Challenge as a DT. I feel like I’ve learned so much about myself during these past 6 months and really, should be holding some kind of speech. But since I’m lazy, I’m only sharing my card.

This week’s theme is this fabulous colour combo (yes, I really had to add the “u”). I know, I know. At first it seems like a whole lot of fluorescent but once you get going, the colours come together pretty easy.

challenge146001 Ta-dah! The colours are slightly off. I scanned it so they don’t come across as bright as they are in real life. The rosettes are from my local craft store, the banners are actually plastic push pins and background paper is either MME or OA. Can’t remember. The tire is paper pieced to give some dimension and it looks rather fun in real life. If you are interested to take part, click HERE and you have a chance to win 5 digis from Mayzy Art.

I’m sharing this card also in following challenges:

Make It Monday: #125 with Meljens Designs
Paper Playtime: Challenge #2- Use Some Brown
Ooh La La Creations: Challenge #122- Wheely Good
Simon Says Stamp Challenge: Let’s Get Paper Piecing! (the tire swing)

Fairies & Fantasy

Can you believe, I actually have a story behind this card? It’s pretty clever even if I say so myself. Last night, as I was making this card, I looked at the digi and thought it looks like zombie spagetti. From there my train of thought went like this: spagetti is food. There’s a magazine called Food, right? Hah , wouldn’t it be funny if zombies had a food magazine? What would it be called? BRAAINS!!!

I dug up all the green and halloween-y papers from my stash and got to open my brand new green glitter bottle. The glitter, naturally, will be found around my flat weeks to come but I think the end result is worth it.

Who doesn’t like glittered chipboard letters? No one, I say.

I used Dimensional Magic on the eyes to bring out their grosness (is that a word? No, the red squiggly line says no.) My rough handling caused the dents on the eyes but I think in this context, the mistakes are fine.

So here it is, the first ever issue of a magazine for foodie zombies, BRAAINS! Where all the issues are marked number 31. I’m entering this card in following challenges:

Paper Playtime: Challenge #86- Welcome to Booville
Pile It On #43: Holiday, any Holiday

Flowers!

Monday is the challenge day! This week’s theme at Craft Your Passion is Flowers and as an extra challenge, you must have flowers in your image, not just in paper or embellishment. This worked out for me pretty well, as my embellishment collection is quite limited.

See, I took some in progress pics! These are the papers I was considering for this card. The digi stamp is by Delicious Doodles.

In the end I went with the lettering paper by Crate Paper. It gave me this NY loft garden vibe so I kept the entire card simple and the colour palette limited. I so love this paper and I’m totally regretting that I bought only two sheets of it.

The compulsory close-up! This week’s challenge prizes are from Delicious Doodles and Di’s Digi Downloads. You have till Sunday to participate so go and get crafty!

Emboss It!

Yes, it’s time to show my latest DT card for Craft Your Passion! This week’s theme, “Emboss It”, caused a whole lot headache at the Thrifty Apartment. First of all, I don’t have Big Shot or any similar machine and thusly, not a single embossing folder. Secondly, I don’t own a single jar of embossing powder and wasn’t too keen buying one for just one challenge. What is girl to do?

My fellow DTs were very helpful and gave me a tip that I could use my rolling-pin and some textural items to create an embossed background. I got all excited until I realized that I literally don’t own anything that could be used as an embossing template. Just great. My deadline was just hours away when I thought “There must be embossed scrapbook papers, right?”

I crabbed my jacket and made a mad dash to the local craft store in order to get there before closing time. Once I got there, I began browsing through their stacks of paper and lo and behold, there they were! Two tiny, A5 sheets of wet embossed paper. Which cost me 60 cents in total! I truly am a Thrifty Genius.

The embossed paper is the black, dotted one. I also used linen fabric that I frayed on the edges and old book pages.

The butterfly is a digi stamp by Cardmadfairy that I coloured on Photoshop. Originally it has a scalloped wings and antenna but I cut them away. For technical reasons *wink, wink*.

Go on and make a card and take part on Craft Your Passion! This week’s prize is 20 dollar gift card to Simon Says Stamp and 5 digi’s of choice from Cardmadfairy! Not too shabby, I think.

Well, I’m off to check out the latest TAST- stitch, till next time!
