One time or another everyone reaches a point in their lives where they have to make difficult choices. To me that day is today. I was so cool about it for months. “I don’t need to go there, I’ve seen her perform four times already”. Or “Nah, I hear it’s nothing special”. Or “A true fan can appreciate her anywhere!”.
Then today came. And the headline stating that She Has Landed on Helsinki-Vantaa Airport.
And my brain did “AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAMADONNAAAAAHHHHHH”- thing.
And now I have a ticket and a nutritional 2-week eating plan consisting solely of porridge.
My love for Madonna is no secret. She has gotten me through more low points and girls night out in my life than anyone else. When I was kid, I did a choreography together with my cousin to Express Yourself. Let me tell you, we were on fire! Although we weren’t able to finish it. We had a permission to use the old sauna building for our masterpiece but were thrown out after my cousin’s grandma accidentally tripped over the cassette player electrical cord (which we smartly had extended right across the front door). I firmly believe my career as a Madonna’s back up dancer was ruined there and then.
Well I can’t get enough of Madonna and yesterday the official video for Girl Gone Wild was released! I wasn’t too keen on her first single from MDNA although in the video itself I liked her white lace dress and black outfit she wears dancing in front of the brick wall. They both are updated versions of her iconic looks around Immaculate Collection- era.
But the new video? It’s fierce! Fierce! Fierce! Fierce! I’m sorry that I don’t have enough fancy words in my vocabulary to express how I feel…When I saw the video and realized she had used Kazaky as her dancers, I got goosepumps. It’s so fashion! Black and white. Controversial (well I don’t think Kazaky goes down well with the average person). Unapologetic. Bursting with energy and fire. When you listen to this song (especially on Friday night) you cannot help but feeling cool and special and full of energy and possibility. And, and, and…
And I’m very jealous of Kazaky’s skills in walking in high heels. Gay men really do all the girl things better. Here’s some proof from 2010:
This is what has been playing non-stop at Thrifty Household since last night. And THIS should have been Madonna’s first single. Love it! Seriously, I should be working through my fabric stash but somehow sitting on my chair, listening to this song and reminiscing my youth seems much more appealing.
I’ve been working at Amalia since Thursday night. Small space filled with women crafting, direct sunlight and no air-con apparently amounts to heat stroke. Guess who got the heat stroke? Moi. Yours truly. Yesterday was pure hell, I can’t remember when I last felt like that.
No, actually I do remember. 2009 after Madonna- concert when I collapsed and had to be rushed to ER where I spent the entire night. The ambulance crew thought I was drunk and kept shouting at me, trying to coax a response. Yes, that is what you do to a person who has collapsed because of dehydration and has no voice due to frantic Madonna! Madonna! Madonna!- chanting. Eventually they believed my sister who told them that I haven’t drunk anything.
Back to present. Good news is that this morning Mira found a switch. And that switch is for the air conditioning. Did I tell you she’s been at this address for a year?
