I’m a Craft Your Passion Challenges DT!

If you were wondering where the heck I disappeared, the answer is Lapland. My god-son had his communion this year and in our neck of woods, it’s a big deal. He was so cute in his suit and Justin Bieber- hair. Of which I didn’t tease him AT ALL! It seems as I’m developing as a grown up.

Now to the actual news: I’ve been selected as a DT on Craft Your Passion Challenges!!! I sent my application thinking there’s no way I’m going to make it but to my surprise, I got a congrats e-mail in July telling me I got in! This week was my first time creating card for them AND also my first time doing rounds commenting on people’s cards. Now that’s hard work but I did manage to say something special about everyone’s card.

Hey! Another sign that I’m maturing! Hah! Some people said that this day would never come! I totally showed them.

This week the challenge theme is Anything Goes and I used a sponsor image by Sassy Studio Design, Nurse Heather:

Luckily I have plenty of nurses in my family and friends so I will get plenty of use out of this image. The card I created for the challenge looks like this:

I used mix of Papermania and Crate Paper and the sentiment is something I typed myself and then printed. For colouring I used ProMarkers except for the skin, which is coloured with a Copic. Phew! Now that I’ve gotten my first DT- card done. I can focus on creating next few. I also have to write a blurb about myself (little bit late but it’s not easy to write a winner introduction to oneself. Proof can be found on my About- page) and find a decent picture of myself. Okay, there’s already one picture of me on the show but I don’t like it at all. Luckily I went out in Lapland so there’s some nice GoingOutAndHavingNiceDoAndMakeUp- photos available.

Over and out. Thrifty Finn

TAST 17: Wheatear Field of Wheat

Wheatear or as I like to call it Weetabix- stitch, is a quick stitch to do. I had this sampler done in less than an hour which I liked very much, considering how many I still have to do before I’m caught up.

There’s something very national romantic in this stitch. A reminder of simpler times when every summer was warm and sunny.

I’ll be using this stitch in the future for sure. My grandparents would appreciate anything stitched with wheatear, they used to be farmers after all.

Next stitch: Crossed Buttonhole! And if you are interested, my other samplers are here.

We Will Always Have Paris

How should I put it nicely…After the trip to Paris (the one that won me the tickets), I swore I would never, EVER travel with my sister again. I get a crazy eye twitch every time even thinking about it. The trip HAS provided quite a few anecdotes and educational stories about with whom to travel. The most important being; If you travel to a city where you have been many times and just want to relax, don’t go with someone who hasn’t. Honestly, it’s a recipe to a disaster.

Disaster or not, when I (last year that is) came acquainted with the world of scrapbooking (read: scrapbook papers), I realized the afore-mentioned trip was perfect material for a minibook. Minibook with slight passive-agressive/sarcastic undertones to remind that no, there is no way I will be travelling with you again.

If I remember correctly, the papers I used were mostly by My Mind’s Eye, some journaling stickers were by Sassafras and other embellishments were just random things from my stash. I used a picture book as a base and covered each page with scrapbooking paper. The photographs I printed at home, most of them half-size so I could fit two of them per standard photo paper sheet.

I definitely should get a Dymo. I feel that there is something essential missing in my crafting toolbox.

We will always have the Eiffel- tower. The black cardboard is actually a backside of a clothing tag.

The floral paper is my all time favourite and I only have two tiny pieces left! I’m almost willing to give my left arm for more of it. I love this spread. My only annoyance is that gargantuan wrinkle I couldn’t get rid of! Damn you tacky glue.

As we mature people know, not every day is bad. The day we went to Versailles was just lovely! When I made this book, I didn’t have that many stamps, so to make the tag you see in the corner, I used my printer and one of my fancy fonts I have in my font stash.

Back then my friend lived in Bastille. There are tons of places to eat it in, plus on Sunday’s there is a nice market where you can buy food and trinkets. I bought a snazzy brooch, (which I broke almost immediately upon returning home) and a ring for two euros!

Did I mention food? There was this fantastic bakery where we bought something delicious to eat almost every day. Their eclairs were just divine!

Louvre & Madonna…The reason we went to Paris was to see Madonna’s Sticky&Sweet- concert. Had we known she was coming to Finland in less than a year, we wouldn’t have gone all the way to France to see her. The picture of me and my sister was taken after the concert and is actually one of the few we BOTH like.

Is anyone else out there as neurotic about photos of themselves as I am, or is it really just me?

Also, I’d like to note that the specs on the picture are by Diesel. Or more like were as few months later, I stepped on them and subsequently broke them. My “new” one’s are by Dolce&Gabbana, cost twice as much and I don’t like them even half as much as I did my Diesel’s.

Slightly sulking right now.

The last spread…On the left, very flattering picture of my sister on the last morning in Paris, getting her make-up done. On the right, very flattering picture of her intellectually stimulating in-flight reading material. FYI, apparently Posh Spice was on a new diet.

Au revoir!

P.S. If you’re interested, the year was 2008.

Recently Thrifted…

 Ella paperdoll. And this:

That’s the gift I mentioned yesterday. That’s my defense and I’m sticking to it. One of my cousins is still “kinda” into Hannah Montana and I thought she might like this. Verdict will be in next week…
