Totally Teal

It’s time for my second to last challenge as a Design Team Member. This week’s theme is Totally Teal and and our sponsor is Saturated Canary. I chose to work with this image:

It’s called Roger That and I thought the specs makes it extra cute! My god-daughter actually has geeky frames like that so maybe I will send this card to her. For papers I used the new digi papers I bought from Pixels & Company, specifically the Scarlett-set.

Challenge146a

Ta-dah! I used plaid and woodgrain patterns. The latter is just barely visible as the image frame. The plaid was printed in two different scales. The larger is actually printed directly on the 6×6 card base! I made a small mistake with the printing so I had to cut the margins off but the slightly smaller size is not really noticeable in real life.

Challenge146b Aaargh! I just noticed that I forgot to colour in the nose bridge!!! Other techniques used are doodle stitching, regular stitching and some inking on the edges.

Challenge146c So sweet, don’t you think?

Challenge146d Over all I’m very pleased with this card. You can take part in Craft Your Passion’s Totally Teal by clicking the hyperlink. There are prizes from Saturated Canary and The Robin’s Nest to be won! I’m also sharing my talent in following challenges:

Buttons & Bows

It’s time for my weekly DT- card…Recipe: 2 buttons and a bow.

There’s the bow.

The two buttons sits on the left corner.

Bow, wow, hau, woof and bark. This doggy has plenty to say about that ball.

Or maybe he is telling you to go and take part in this week challenge. This weeks prizes are provided by Stamp Fairy and The Charm Barn. 10$ gift certificate! That’s plenty of digi stamps or charms to play with! Now I have to go and try to find the cords for my scanner. I haven’t been able to finish the freebie I promised last week because of it. Oh well! Patience is a virtue anyway :D

Till next time!

Flowers!

Monday is the challenge day! This week’s theme at Craft Your Passion is Flowers and as an extra challenge, you must have flowers in your image, not just in paper or embellishment. This worked out for me pretty well, as my embellishment collection is quite limited.

See, I took some in progress pics! These are the papers I was considering for this card. The digi stamp is by Delicious Doodles.

In the end I went with the lettering paper by Crate Paper. It gave me this NY loft garden vibe so I kept the entire card simple and the colour palette limited. I so love this paper and I’m totally regretting that I bought only two sheets of it.

The compulsory close-up! This week’s challenge prizes are from Delicious Doodles and Di’s Digi Downloads. You have till Sunday to participate so go and get crafty!

Emboss It!

Yes, it’s time to show my latest DT card for Craft Your Passion! This week’s theme, “Emboss It”, caused a whole lot headache at the Thrifty Apartment. First of all, I don’t have Big Shot or any similar machine and thusly, not a single embossing folder. Secondly, I don’t own a single jar of embossing powder and wasn’t too keen buying one for just one challenge. What is girl to do?

My fellow DTs were very helpful and gave me a tip that I could use my rolling-pin and some textural items to create an embossed background. I got all excited until I realized that I literally don’t own anything that could be used as an embossing template. Just great. My deadline was just hours away when I thought “There must be embossed scrapbook papers, right?”

I crabbed my jacket and made a mad dash to the local craft store in order to get there before closing time. Once I got there, I began browsing through their stacks of paper and lo and behold, there they were! Two tiny, A5 sheets of wet embossed paper. Which cost me 60 cents in total! I truly am a Thrifty Genius.

The embossed paper is the black, dotted one. I also used linen fabric that I frayed on the edges and old book pages.

The butterfly is a digi stamp by Cardmadfairy that I coloured on Photoshop. Originally it has a scalloped wings and antenna but I cut them away. For technical reasons *wink, wink*.

Go on and make a card and take part on Craft Your Passion! This week’s prize is 20 dollar gift card to Simon Says Stamp and 5 digi’s of choice from Cardmadfairy! Not too shabby, I think.

Well, I’m off to check out the latest TAST- stitch, till next time!

Power Of Three

This week, Craft Your Passion, asked us to create something with triples of things. In my card I had multiple of things in threes. 3 black diamonds, 3 clear ones, 3 layers of paper, 3 shades of grey (heehee) and 3 ways to finish edges; faux stitching, real stitching and doodle framing.

I’m such a multi-faceted crafter with many, many layers of deepiness, deep inside me.

I know, I know. It’s very unattractive to laugh at one’s own joke. But I’m still doing it.

Anyhoo, I used this image by our sponsor, Crafty Sentiments Designs because it reminds me of one of my cousins, Siiri. She’s 8 and she is so sweet and adorable like you wouldn’t believe. Since I’m going to send this one to her, I tried to capture her personality in the card as many ways as possible.

First of all, I coloured the girl blond and gave her blue eyes just as Siiri. Last summer she was a flower girl at her aunt’s wedding and wore a dress just like that, so that colour came from there. The flowers are coloured to give an impression of Finnish summer, which means no exotic colours.

As for the background…I wanted to emphasize how Siiri and personality always brighten up everyone’s mood, she really is a ray of sunshine, so I decided to go with monochromatic papers. To give the stamped image even more of a pop, I lifted it with foam from the background. The stitching, faux and real, also gives another dimension to this card. Almost as if the image in the center is fabric badge of honour on someone’s grey, floral sleeve.

Oh, I’m such an artist. A poet.

The diamonds in the corners are there because A. they are girl’s best friend and B. Siiri wants to be a pop star when she grows up and naturally pop stars wear diamonds.

Hope you enjoyed my rambling. Now go and craft and take part in Craft Your Passion Challenge. There are prizes for three this week!

Till next time!
