April 26th 2013  Hi! My name is Niina but over here I call myself Thrifty Finn. This blog began as a method of coping with my pain in the butt knees and what felt like a never-ending wait to get them fixed. Naturally the topic had to be crafts and thrift shopping since both are very risk free activities when it comes to afore-mentioned knees. And who doesn’t love crafts anyway? My crafty skills include paper, fabric, embroidery and printing. Yes, I actually have silkscreen equipment here at home. Awesome, huh?

Right now I’m finally at the point where I’ve gotten the much-needed operation so I can actually move ahead with my life. What does that mean for Thrifty Finn, the blog? First of all, I’m going to be more out and about! Yeah, I’ll be sharing interesting things outside my home. This will hopefully translate into more interesting crafts too. On top of that, I’m planning to open Thrifty Finn Digital Stamps & Embroidery Patterns Store within next few months. Domain is bought and coding is slowly progressing but I’ll keep you posted on that. (That’s why you haven’t seen many card crafts here lately, I’ve been busy sketching!!!)

How about my professional life? Since I’m finally free to work, I’ve started the painstaking process of writing CVs, updating my portfolio and networking. My life goal is to be a creative director (don’t laugh) and dammit, I’m going to get there. Tips on how to achieve that, are always welcome.

Feel free to contact me. I can answer questions about myself, crafts, design and thrift stores. Don’t be afraid to give me suggestions on new blog posts, blog meets, job opportunities and collaborations. I’m very keen on doing guest posts!

Love, Thrifty Finn.

I saw your comment at Crafterhours and had to stop by! My husband is Finnish, he was born in the United States (where we live) and there are not many Finns here. So as soon as I saw your comment, I knew I needed to visit. Cute blog! I will definitely come back.

I like the sound of Finnish slow and melodically… German sounds like a contract perfect for engineers lol Finnish sounds like lovely forest people lol. I’m sure English must sound terrible to others lol. Xo

Hey there. I love your stitching and am really happy to have found your blog as I want to start doing this sort of thing. I live in London. Do you know (shot in the dark here) any places that can help you get started? I’ve done some stitching years ago and want to start doing my own napkins. Keep up the great content.

Hi Kyla! Thanks for stopping by. As for the crafty help…I don’t remember where I learnt my first stitches but this: http://www.sublimestitching.com/pages/tutorials is a good place to start! My first supplies I bought from the UK Ebay. Even
with the postage to Finland I saved tons of money. Keep an eye on floss lots! That’s a great way to start a stash! If you are
looking for patterns to stitch, subscribe CraftGossip on RSS, they post various links to free ones frequently. As for which stitch to learn
first? I recommend back stitch, split stitch and french knot. French knots always impress people!

Thanks Niina. You’re so kind to do all of this. What is a floss lot? I’ll definitely try out those stitches. I can already do the french one. I’m really excited. do you sell stuff on etsy at all?

That’s when you get bunch of floss for cheap. A job lot. And no, I don’t have an Etsy. I do have a Luulla- shop space but I haven’t sold anything there yet.
